2022 Volvo VNL RVXX2104 Transmission May Shift to Neutral Unexpectedly

SAFETY RECALL Volvo Trucks North America Greensboro, NC USA Date Number Release Page 10.2021 RVXX2104 01 1(3) Cummins with Eaton TransmissionVNL RECALL INFORMATION (October, 2021) Volvo Trucks has determined Certain 2022 VNL model vehicles manufactured with a Cummins ISL engine and Eaton Endurant transmission, may shift to neutral without the driver selecting neutral. An unexpected shift to neutral may result in driver distraction, which may result in a vehicle crash. Volvo Trucks has not received any complaints or reports of vehicle crashes because of this safety defect. Therefore, Volvo considers this as a proactive measure to protect the public and Volvo’s customers from the potential risk associated with this defect. To correct the defect and ensure safe operation of these vehicles, the Vehicle Electronic Control Unit must be programed to latest software. VEHICLES AFFECTED Certain Volvo North America vehicles manufactured between January 4th, 2021 and October 4th, 2021. VEHICLE QUANTITY There are 162 vehicles affected by this recall (162 U.S., 0 Canada). Page 2 of 3 Repair Instructions 1. Secure Vehicle for service. 2. Connect to the vehicle using latest version of Using Premium Tech Tool (PTT). 3. After identification is complete, navigate to the programing tab within PTT. 4. Select operation 1700-08-03-39, Program Electronic Control Unit. 5. Select the Vehicle Electronic Control Unit option (MID 144) and reprogram the control unit. 6. After programing is complete, clear any faults left by the programming process. 7. Return vehicle to service. PRECAUTIONS YOU CAN TAKE: TIME REQUIRED FOR THE REPAIR: There are no precautions you can take other than having your vehicle repaired by a Volvo Parts and Service Center. The time required to repair your vehicle is approximately 1 hours. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: You should contact the nearest Volvo Parts and Service Center and make an appointment. Dealers will reprogram the electronic control module, free of charge.
