) is recalling one 2024 VNL truck. The bearing journals may not be fully seated in the steering knuckle assembly, preventing the proper installation of the wheel end hub assembly.
Remedy
A dealer will inspect and replace the steering knuckle assembly as necessary, free of charge. The owner notification letter is expected to be mailed February 8, 2024. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks

Description of Defect:
Vehicles may be equipped with Hendrickson Composilite EXS20 and SC 20 steerable auxiliary lift axle suspension assemblies with bearing journals not fully seated to the backbones of the left and right-side steering knuckle assembly in order for the wheel end hub assemblies to be properly installed. This can result in foreign object debris on the roadway, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury.
There have been no field reports, warranty claims or customer complaints associated with this issue.
Vehicles will be inspected to identify suspect Hendrickson Composolite EXS20 and SC 20 steerable auxiliary lift axle suspension assemblies, those which are suspect will be repaired following Hendrickson’s Instructions.

Certain 2024 VN and VHD model vehicles manufactured from October 09, 2023 through October 10, 2023.

The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.
Release Schedule:
- Vehicle list will be posted on the Trucks Dealer Portal on December 22, 2023.
- Owner notification letters will be released on or before February 08, 2024.
- Repair Instruction will be released once they are available.

November 27, 2023, after review by Product Safety Evaluation Committee a request is made to Hendrickson to provide their safety inputs to their product issue.
December 18, 2023, Hendrickson provides formal notification that they have filed an equipment recall Composilite EXS20 and SC20 steerable auxiliary lift axle suspension assemblies and individual steering knuckle assembly components equipped with bearing journals that may not have been seated correctly to the backbones of the left and right-side steering knuckle assembly components during manufacture.

Description of the Safety Risk : As reported by Hendrickson: In some cases, the above-referenced condition may cause a loss of oil lubricant from the wheel end hub assemblies. Over an extended period of operation, use of the lift axle suspension assemblies in this condition can result in (1) the respective axle spindles to become loose from the steering knuckle assemblies or otherwise fracture and/or (2) wheel end hub damage. This can result in foreign object debris on the roadway,
increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury. As reported by Hendrickson they Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-886 Page 2 had not received any field reports of any such occurrences or any associated accidents.
Description of the Cause : Hendrickson reports that the cause identified as excessive wear on the tooling used to install the journal rings and inadequate quality measurements performed after such installations. Identification of Any Warning
