) is recalling certain 2020-2023 VNR Electric vehicles equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). When the adaptive cruise control braking activates under light load conditions, it can trigger an aggressive braking response.
Remedy
Dealers will secure wiring and remove radar antennas and brackets from the vehicle. The anti-lock braking system will be reprogrammed to disable adaptive cruise control. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 2, 2023. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks

has determined that certain VNR Electric model trucks equipped with adaptive cruise control could experience an overly aggressive braking event during regenerative braking when lightly loaded. Overly aggressive braking could cause rear axle skidding and loss of control resulting in vehicle crash.
Volvo trucks
is currently working on a remedy program and once available there will be a follow up service campaign to provide a solution. Dealers and customers will be notified when the remedy is available.

has not received any complaints or reports of injury; therefore, Volvo
considers this as a proactive measure to protect the public and Volvo
’s customers from the potential risk associated with this defect.
Currently, Volvo Trucks
is requiring the removal of the front radar, its bracket and installation of a par file. Please follow instruction below to complete.

Repair Instructions
Description of Defect:
During an adaptive cruise control braking event under light load conditions, regenerative braking could be aggressive with the potential of locking brakes and alternating anti-skid braking events, skidding the rear axle.
Overly aggressive brake event which could result in loss of control which could result in a vehicle crash.
There have been no accidents, injuries, field complaints or warranty claims related to this issue.
The remedy program has not been finalized at this time.

The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

- Owner notification letters will be released on or before June 2, 2023.

discovered that adaptive cruise control components, specifically front radar, had been installed on our battery electric platform, the system had not been integrated into the battery electric driveline.
March 15, 2023 Product Safety Working Group opens an investigation on this issue.
March 20, 2023 Product Safety Working Group review of findings from investigation decides to recommend that this be raised to the Product Safety Committee as a potential safety defect.
March 30, 2023 Product Safety Committee reviews recommendation and asks for additional data relative to vehicle behavior.
April 3, 2023 Product Safety Committee meets and determines that a product safety defect exists.
April 7, 2023 573 Report Filed with NHTSA.
There have been no accidents or injuries or field complaints or warranty claims related to this issue.

1. Park the vehicle on level surface.
2. Apply parking brake.
3. Place the transmission in park or neutral.
4. Turn off ignition.
5. Install wheel chocks.
6. Preform inspection to determine the state of truck, if radar and bracket is not installed, harness is capped and tied back, and labels are installed you can skip to step 36.
7. Disconnect all external power supply or charging devices.

8. Lock the access to the CCS (Combined Charging System).

19. Remove the tie straps circled below.
20. Remove forward-facing radar and bracket as an assembly.
21. Install connector seals into connector cap and slide yellow locking tab to the locked position.
Important Note
If only the bracket is installed it will need to be removed in the same manner.

22. Install connector cap onto harness.
23. Wrap warning label (P/N-24585120) around radar harness within an inch of the radar connector.

25. Place warning label (P/N-24585112) in top left-hand corner of windshield. If there is a label already there that pertains to VADA place new label over top of it.

39. After programming, please ensure the following pop-ups and warning lights appear on dash.
40. Please print two copies of the last page of this document. Leave one copy in the truck for the driver and install the second copy in the owner’s manual pouch.

Please ensure ABS .par file is updated even if the truck arrived for service with all parts removed and labels installed. Please also ensure dash look like pictures below.

North America has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020 to 2023 Volvo
VNR electric model vehicles manufactured from April 16, 2019 through October 19, 2022.
SAFETY DEFECT:
On a small number of VNR electric trucks, the regenerative braking system could cause the rear wheels to lock up and skid during an adaptive cruise control (ACC) braking event.
SAFETY RISK:
Rear wheels that lock suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.
PRECAUTIONS YOU CAN TAKE:
TIME REQUIRED FOR THE REPAIR:
There are no precautions you can take other than having your vehicle repaired by a Volvo
Parts and Service Center.
The time required to repair your vehicle is approximately 2 hours. Dealer will remove any adaptive cruise control equipment. Recall repairs will be provided free of charge to you.

Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

Description of the Defect : During an adaptive cruise control braking event under light load conditions, regenerative braking could be aggressive with the potential of locking brakes and alternating anti-skid braking events, skidding the rear axle.

March 13, 2023 Volvo discovered that adaptive cruise control components, specifically front radar, had been installed on our battery electric platform, the system had not been integrated into the battery electric driveline.
March 15, 2023 Product Safety Working Group opens an investigation on this issue.
March 20, 2023 Product Safety Working Group review of findings from investigation decides to recommend that this be raised to the Product Safety Committee as a potential safety defect.
March 30, 2023 Product Safety Committee reviews recommendation and asks for additional data relative to vehicle behavior.
