Car) is recalling certain 2001-2003 S80 and S60 vehicles sold or ever registered in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The driver side frontal air bag inflator may rupture, sending metal fragments into the passage compartment, when the driver side air bag is deployed.
Remedy
Volvo
Car will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver side air bag module, free of charge. The recall began April 20, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo
Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo

Cars investigations has identified a problem regarding the driver air bag. In the event of a crash where the driver air bag is activated, the driver might be struck by metal fragments from inside the inflator potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

Warning!
Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed pyrotechnical SRS component.
Warning!
Pyrotechnical SRS components must never be taken apart, repaired, transferred to another vehicle, deployed, or disposed of.
Note!

Preparation
Caution!
Handle all the packaging with care, this shall be re-used when returning the old component.
– Cardboard box
– Steel cage
– Wrapping material
Note !
The unique serial number on the New module must be recorded on your repair order, so that it can be added in the text field in QW90. Only state serial number, no other text or figures is allowed. If the serial number is missing on the repair order the claim will be rejected.
Airbag driver side (SRS), replacing (4 spoke steering wheel)
Removal
Ignition off.
Disconnect the battery negative cable.
Turn the steering wheel so that there is enough space for tools.
Completely loosen the two screws positioned at 45 degrees on the rear of the steering wheel.
Pull out the airbag module to access the connectors.
Use: Torx 30
Remove
– the 2 connectors by pressing in the catches (there may be more or fewer).
– the airbag module
Transferring Components
Caution! Handle the keypads with extra care, Volvo
Cars has limited access to these spare parts.
Transfer the keypads and bracket.
Remove on both sides
– the four screws (1) (10 Nm) for the bracket
– the Bracket
– the two screws (2) (2Nm) for the keypads
– disconnect the two connectors by pressing in the catches for the keypads
– the Keypads, gently.
Installation
Caution!
Ensure that no cables are trapped.
Install:
– the connectors
– the airbag module
Tighten the screws on the rear of the steering wheel. Tighten to 10 Nm.
Use: Torx 30
Warning!
The key must be in position 2. No one must be in the car when the battery is connected. This is a safety precaution in case an airbag module activates when the power is connected.
– Connect the ground cable
Airbag driver side (SRS), replacing (3 spoke steering wheel)
Removal
Ignition off.
Disconnect the battery negative cable.
Turn the steering wheel a ¼ turn so that the two holes on the rear of the steering wheel are accessible.
Insert a flat screwdriver in the holes on the rear of the steering wheel. Place the screwdriver point against the top of the spring clip as illustrated.
Pry the screwdriver up against the upper edge of the hole (2) so that the point of the screwdriver presses down the catch (1) until the catch releases.
Turn the steering wheel a ½ turn in the opposite direction. Repeat the process on the other side. Turn the steering wheel to the neutral position.
Fold out the airbag, gently.
Disconnect the 2 connectors (1) (there may be more or less) by pressing in the catches for the SRS ignition cables for the airbag module
– Remove the airbag module
Installation
Caution!
Ensure that no cables are trapped.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Warning!
The key must be in position 2. No one must be in the car when the battery is connected. This is a safety precaution in case an airbag module activates when the power is connected.
– Connect the battery ground cable
Warning!
Make sure that all four hooks are engaged, securing that the top part of the cage is connected.
If necessary, a screwdriver can be used.
Note!
Place the old component in the packaging that the new one was delivered in for further transport according to instructions.
Note!
Mark the box with your Repair order number.
Return the Box to your parts department for further transport.

Car Corporation, has decided to launch Recall R10058 on
model year 2001 – 2003 S60 Series and S80 Series vehicles.
Volvo
has identified that in the event of a crash with a driver airbag activation, the propellant inside the
driver airbag may cause the airbag to rupture. This condition could render the driver to be struck by fragments
of metal from the inflator.
The corrective action is to replace the Driver Airbag.
A total of 54,124 U.S. vehicles are eligible for this recall.
At this time parts are only available for the S60 Series vehicles. In January 2021, a notice was mailed
to all involved customers that Volvo
had decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists
in certain 2001-2003 model year S60 vehicles and that replacement parts needed to perform the final
repair were not available. A second notice informing all involved customers was mailed on April 21,
2021 informing that these parts are now available. Due to supply limitations, the color of the replacement
airbag will only be available in gray-charcoal. Parts for the S80 MY01-03 will not be available
until a later date.

Example:
It is imperative that NO AIRBAGS ARE DETONATED/DEPLOYED once removed from the vehicle.
VIDA may instruct the technicians to do so but detonating the airbag should not be done. Defective
parts will be required to be sent back to Volvo
for disposal. Please hold on to all air bags until a parts
return process is communicated.
IMPORTANT: The Serial Number of the NEW Airbag, and only the serial number, must be
entered on the first line of the Warranty Claim “Repair Text”. Claims for Recall R10058 will not be
required to follow Volvo
’s published Repair Text requirements. The Volvo
Personnel ID number should
not be included. Do not add any additional text, figures or comments. If the NEW serial number is
not provided on the first line of the repair text the claim will be rejected. It must also be noted on the

It is a violation of federal law for a retailer to deliver any new Volvo
that is eligible for a recall. Retailers are advised to check all vehicles in inventory for recall eligibility and repair immediately. Violation of this requirement by a retailer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle.
Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.
USED VEHICLES IN RETAILER INVENTORY
VCUSA is ordering the stop-delivery of affected vehicles in VCUSA, auction and dealer inventory until the recalled item can be repaired.
Stopping the delivery of affected used vehicles until the recall is complete is consistent with Volvo
’s commitment to safety. Additionally, while Federal law does not prohibit the sale of used vehicles with open recalls, the sale of such cars could violate certain state laws and create liability on behalf of the retailer.
What does this mean for customers?
Customers will not be able to take delivery of affected vehicles until the recall has been completed.
When will this be resolved?
VCUSA is making every effort to expedite parts to complete the recall. More information will be available in the coming months.

At this time parts to correct affected vehicles are not available for this repair. Please be assured that Volvo
is working to secure the needed replacement parts as soon as possible.

is expecting to have parts in stock for the S60 MY01-03 and S80 MY02-03 by mid-1st Quarter 2021 and for S80 MY01 mid-4th Quarter 2021.
Vehicle eligibility must be confirmed:
• Vehicle Inquiry – Vehicle Warranty where the message “Recall R10058 Driver Airbag” will appear for eligible vehicles.
• All cars not yet delivered to end customers must be corrected prior to delivery.
