Volvo Trucks
North America (Volvo Trucks
) is recalling certain 2021 VNL, VHD, and VNR vehicles. The king pin nut may not have been installed or properly tightened during axle assembly.
Remedy
Volvo Trucks
will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle to make sure that the king pin nut is installed and that it properly tightened, free of charge. The recall began September 28, 2020. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks
customer service at 1-800-458-1522. Volvo
Truck’s number for this recall is RVXX 2003.

Subject: Safety Recall RVXX2003, King Pin Nut
Description of Defect:
Failure to torque and/or install the king pin nut may affect handling characteristics of the vehicle and may result in the knuckle separating from the end of the axle if the king pin becomes dislodged. This increases the risk of loss of control, which may result in a vehicle crash.
All Vehicles have been addressed as of September 11, 2020.

: Certain 2021 VNL/VHD model vehicles manufactured from March 27, 2020 through July 13, 2020, with a Volvo
proprietary axle assembled at Westport Axle Corporation.

Dealer’s Responsibility:
The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

CAMPAIGN FOR:
King Pin Inspection
DESCRIPTION:
Need to verify king pin nut torque.
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
1. Pull king pin caps
2. Visually inspect (nuts in place, greased, worn, etc…)
3. If nuts are missing, replace. (Follow IMPACT procedure)
4. King Pin nut torque check, using torque wrench, tighten the nut until you see movement (note the torque)
5. Re-torque the nuts to specification (763-934 Nm – 563-689 lb-ft).

North America has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Volvo
2021 VNL/VHD model vehicles manufactured from March 27, 2020 through July 13, 2020, with a Volvo
proprietary axle assembled at Westport Axle Corporation.
This recall notice is for informational purposes only. Your vehicle has already been inspected to ensure the kingpin nuts are installed and properly tightened.
SAFETY DEFECT:
On a certain trucks, the steering kingpin nut may not have been properly installed and tightened. As a result, the steering knuckle could separate from the axle.
SAFETY RISK:
If this happens, there would be a loss of steering control. Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could create a risk of a crash.
PRECAUTIONS YOU CAN TAKE:
No precautions to take since the kingpin nuts have been inspected to ensure they are installed and properly tightened.

Your vehicle has already received the recall repair.

This recall notice is for informational purposes only. Your vehicle has already been inspected to ensure the kingpin nuts are installed and properly tightened.

For purposes of this Notice, the term Lessor means: a person or entity that is the owner, as reflected on the vehicle’s title, of any five or more leased vehicles (as defined in CFR Section 577.4), as of the date of notification by the manufacturer of the existence of a safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard in one or more of the leased motor vehicles.
