RECALL R10225 DESCRIPTION
Volvo Cars USA LLC and Volvo Cars Canada LTD on behalf of the Volvo Car Corporation has decided to launch Recall R10225: TCAM DTC misdetection on certain model year 2023 S60, V60CC, XC60, XC90, XC40 and C40 vehicles.
Volvo Car Investigations have identified that during a software download on the Telematics and Connectivity Antenna Module (TCAM), the TCAM mis-detects a communication failure towards the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) and sets DTC’s TCAM-U104C87 and TCAM-U113992, and an “e-call service required” message on the Driver Information Module (DIM).
If there is an actual issue in the e-Call system, the driver will not get any extra warnings other than the already displayed false message, increasing the risk of no emergency response.
The corrective action is to update the vehicle’s software with new logic in the TCAM with VIDA only. OTA will not be available for this action.
A total of 329 U.S. and 3 Canadian vehicles are eligible for this recall.
WHAT SHOULD YOUR CUSTOMERS DO NOW?
We have no reports of incidents related to the issue; however, we encourage customers to contact their retailer and have this repair completed as soon as possible.
OWNER NOTIFICATION
An owner notification will be sent out in early-May that will notify the owner of this recall instructing them to contact their Volvo Retailer and request an appointment to have this repair completed.

Volvo Diagnostics & Reprogramming
WELCOME TO VIDA
VIDA stands for "Vehicle Information and Diagnostics for Aftersales". A VIDA subscription could include service and parts information along with wiring schematics, and the ability to download software to a vehicle. Product subscriptions are ranged to be appropriate for a full-service shop through to a stand-alone parts counter.
The wiring schematics for MY's 1994-2016 * are available as separate online PDF type subscription products.
*Wiring schematics for MY 2016 and newer (XC90, S90,V90 and similar platform vehicles) are only viewable within a VIDA subscription that includes Diagnostics or Diagnostics and Software Download.
If you are outside the United States or Canada go to: https://workshopsupportguide.volvocars.biz/home.aspx
VOLVOTECHINFO.COM WEBSITE
Users must always log onto the volvotechinfo.com (VTI) website with the same VTI Username – it is linked to your VIDA account. If you purchased a subscription two years ago, your company already has a VTI Username (and corresponding VIDA account). Make sure you are logging onto this website with that same Username.
** Volvo Tech Info and VIDA are two separate systems. You will have TWO distinct ID s.
When purchasing a subscription or software download Volvotechinfo.com accepts credit and debit cards issued by Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
Your credit card company must support AVS checking (Address Verification System) AVS compares the submitted street address and ZIP code with the values on file at the cardholder's bank. The information you enter must match EXACTLY with what your card company has on file. Please do not try to process your credit card more than once if it is declined, unless you are using a completely different credit card/debit card number, or you are correcting an error in your Billing Information.
If you try to process an order multiple times and your credit card continues to be declined because of AVS, you will see multiple pending charges on your credit card for the full order amount. Funds for each pending charge will be unavailable until the hold is cleared. This may take several days.
DiCE Information
Pirated DiCE products are becoming increasingly common. These units are mostly available from aftermarket sources and websites. These units commonly cost between one half to two thirds the Volvo price, sometimes including an illegal version of VIDA. Technically, the units are of much less quality and they have been proven to introduce diagnostics and fault tracing issues, as well as new problems into the vehicle. All of which will result in repair delays and customer dissatisfaction.
Most importantly, Volvo will not provide support to customers using these units. Volvo can only support DiCE tools manufactured to our standards from Bosch or those based on J2534-2 certifications.
- ST-182-2012-05-30 New Firmware for DiCE 5.6.2
- ST-160-2017-02-28 DICE Wireless Communication Tool
Vehicle Communication Tools
NOTE
XC90 (16-) reference SMB 00-337. All older vehicles can still use DiCE or J2534.
A vehicle communication tool transfers data from a VIDA workstation to the correct receiver in the vehicle.
VIDA supports DiCE and J2534 devices. Volvo Car Corporation recommends DiCE for vehicle communication with D2 and GGD protocol-based vehicles.
DiCE
DiCE uses a Bluetooth connection to transfer information between VIDA and the vehicle. A USB cable can be used as an alternative to the Bluetooth connection.
Please note that no third party Bluetooth dongles can be used with DiCE, only Volvo Cars DiCE equipment can be used.
Multiple DiCEs
It is possible to connect more than one DiCE to VIDA and download software to as many as three vehicles in parallel and have one vehicle in the diagnostic workflow at the same time. One VIDA workstation with four DiCEs can thus handle four vehicles simultaneously.
J2534 devices
For all vehicles with model year 2004 and later, equipped with OBD and reprogramming capability, manufacturers shall comply with SAE J2534. There are two different versions of J2534:
- J2534-1 can be used to download software to vehicles from, and Including, model year 2004. J2534-1 manages software to control modules on CAN HS (Controller Area Network High Speed) that are emission related.
J2534-1 cannot be used for diagnostics.
- J2534-2 manages software download to control modules on both CAN HS and CAN MS (Controller Area Network Middle Speed).
The hardware used to validate VIDA's compliance with J2534 can be purchased separately from third-party suppliers. Validation has been done using the following J2534 pass-thru devices:
- J2534-1: Actia Passthru+ XS and carDAQ2534.
- J2534-2s: CarDAQ Plus.
For more information regarding these devices, please contact the respective manufacturer.

Dear Volvo Retailer Partner Volvo Cars USA LLC and Volvo Cars Canada LTD on behalf of the Volvo Car Corporation has decided to launch Recall R10225: TCAM DTC misdetection on certain model year 2023 S60, V60CC, XC60, XC90, XC40 and C40 vehicles. Volvo Cars centrally has not received any reports alleging injuries, fatalities, or crashes related to this condition. A total of 329 U.S. and 3 Canadian vehicles are eligible for this recall. NEW VEHICLES IN RETAILER INVENTORY It is a violation of Federal law for a retailer to deliver any new Volvo that is eligible for a recall. Retailers are advised to check all vehicles in inventory for recall eligibility and repair immediately. Violation of this requirement by a retailer could result in a civil penalty of up to $22,723 per violation. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery. USED VEHICLES IN RETAILER INVENTORY Volvo Car USA is ordering the stop-delivery of affected vehicles in auction and retailer inventory until the recalled item can be repaired. Stopping the delivery of affected used vehicles until the recall is complete is consistent with Volvo’s commitment to safety. Additionally, while Federal law does not prohibit the sale of
