Production Dates : SEP 08, 2020 – AUG 13, 2021 VIN Range 1 : Begin : YV4ED3UR9M2439208 End : YV1XZEDVEN2663838 Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Water may enter the cable harness with capillary action and enter the accelerator pedal. The water may cause corrosion in accelerator pedal internal circuits; this may cause the signals from the pedal to be corrupted. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Customer may experience unintended acceleration or no acceleration, loss of drive or no start, increasing the risk of a crash. Description of the Cause : Cable harness from supplier may not be waterproof. Water intrusion from potentially damaged cable harness may corrode circuit accelerator pedal sensor (APS) causing unintended APS signals. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Depending on which signal that gets corrupted the faults may differ, vehicles have a built-in safety logic when receiving faulty signals which reduces the acceleration. The vehicle is still controllable, and the customer can always stop the vehicle with the brake pedal. Volvo Cars R&D initiated an investigation on possible issue and further discussion and analysis with cable harness supplier. The issue was presented to Critical Concern Management Team (CCMT) April 6, 2022. CCMT ordered a start of technical investigation including risk assessment. The technical investigation was completed April 20 and presented to CCMT. CCMT ordered start preparation for a safety recall. The recall preparation was completed April 27 and is scheduled to launch April 28. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : To remedy the concerned vehicles Volvo Cars will inspect for corrosion in APS and connector terminal and change if fault detected. In all cars capillary breaking splice will be installed to stop any risk of water intrusion towards APS. All vehicles repaired at no cost to the customer under Volvo Warranty.
