) is recalling certain 2022-2023 VN L4 and L4E (Sleeper) trucks. The cabinets may be improperly secured to the walls due to the bolts being installed without the required washers.
Remedy
Dealers will install washers to the existing bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 17, 2022. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks
’ customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks

Description of Defect:
On certain trucks, there is a potential for sleeper cabinets to pull away from walls, as bolts may have been installed without necessary washers.
In the event of an accident, the sleeper cabinets may pull free from the cab structure and potentially cause injury.
The repair will be an inspection of the mounting hardware and installation of the washer to the existing bolt as needed.

The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

Volvo Trucks
has determined that certain model year 2022-2023 trucks may have been built with incorrect cabinet mounting hardware. On affected population the mounting bolts used to secure the cabinets to the wall may not have received a necessary washer. In the event of an accident, the sleeper cabinets may pull free from the cab structure and potentially cause injury.
Volvo Trucks
has not received any complaints or reports of injury; therefore, Volvo
considers this as a proactive measure to protect the public and Volvo
’s customers from the potential risk associated with this defect.
To ensure that these vehicles meet Volvo
’s stringent quality requirements, follow the instructions outlined below to inspect the securing hardware and replacement as necessary.

Repair Instructions
1. Secure Vehicle for service.
2. Inspect all four cabinets mounting hardware, per inspection process and cabinet configurations below.
3. Replace all missing or damage cabinet mounting hardware as necessary.
4. Release vehicle for service.

Visually inspect all cabinet mounting hardware for securing screws and washers (as seen below). Replace any missing or damaged hardware and torque to spec.

VN L4 and L4E (Sleeper) cabinet bolts became unavailable from the supplier (Supply Tech). A deviation was issued to use substitute parts. The deviation was overlooked in assembly and line operators did not install the required washer along with the substitution bolt. Cabinets may have the potential to pull away from the walls.
