SAFETY RECALL INFORMATION
(May 2020)
Volvo Trucks
has determined that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain VN model vehicles manufactured from October 28, 2019, through January 17, 2020 with a Sheppard HD94 gearbox. The steering gear fasteners were not torqued to specification during steering gear replacement by final repair- temporary gears were installed by main production line and then replaced by final repair when the correct gear was received. Under-torqued fasteners can result in loss of clamp load, which may affect the steering and potentially cause loss of vehicle control. The steering gearbox mounting fasteners to the frame rail may loosen causing the unsafe condition. Indication of this occurrence may include steering wander or a feeling of looseness in the steering.
Volvo Trucks
has not received reports of personal injury because of this condition. Therefore, Volvo
considers this as a proactive measure to protect the public and Volvo
’s customers from the potential risk associated with this defect.
