Incorrect GAWR on Certification Label/Part 567

If the GAWR information is incorrect, the operator may overload the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

 

Summary

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain 2015-2017 VHD trucks.

The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for the pusher or tag axle may be incorrect on the certification label.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, “Certification.”

 

Remedy

Volvo will notify owners and provide a corrected label along with instructions on how to properly affix the new label to their vehicle, free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin June 16, 2017.

Subject: RVXX1701, Pusher and tag axle ratings on certification label

            

Summary:

Description of Defect: 

The gross axle weight rating for the pusher or tag axle may be incorrectly stated on the incomplete vehicle information label. This is a non-compliance with 49CFR567, Certification.

 

Models/ Model Years Affected: 

Volvo: Certain 2015-2017 VHD model vehicles manufactured from August 29, 2014 through October 17, 2016 and shipped with spare tire(s) for the pusher or tag axle.

 

Vehicle Quantities:

Volvo: 65 Trucks in total all U.S.

 

Dealer’s Responsibility:

The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.

Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.

Release Schedule:

  • Vehicle list will be posted on the Trucks Dealer Portal April 21, 2017.
  • Repair Instructions are tentatively scheduled for release by June 16, 2017.
  • Owner Notices are scheduled to be mailed on or before June 16, 2017.
